Media is not limited to solely TV and radio. There are over 60 types of media ventures! Media consists of many avenues of communication such as online news sites, blogs and social media accounts.
Did you know Syracuse is home to multiple Black-owned media ventures? UrbanCNY, an online news website currently run by founder and editor Ken Jackson, provides updates on the daily and local events to the Black community in Syracuse. The website also has a section of articles highlighting the achievements of members of the community.
Another example of media is the blog Cookin’ in the ‘Cuse. Cookin’ in the ‘Cuse had its start in Syracuse in 2005, and though it has been a decade since its last posting, the archived posts continue to provide valuable information about dining establishments in the city.
The social account UrbanTSyr is yet another example of a Syracuse-based media venture. Tis welcomes panelists to discuss topics that focus and impact the urban community in Syracuse. Tis has created a safe digital space for Black creators, businesses owners, and entrepreneurs to discuss what is happening in the community.
Black Media Mogul Maker wants to inform and boost Black owned media projects in the city of Syracuse. Black Media Mogul Maker is a diverse and inclusive digital media entrepreneurship program that will identify and fortify a new class of media entrepreneurs and owners of entertainment, marketing, news, and other media businesses in Syracuse. The program includes training, mentoring, and resources for founders to become inspired and begin their media business journey.
